Resinous

she is peering at two men exposing
their fair-skinned clean-shaven chests
she misses the hairy
even the excessively shaggy

she remembers the lantern
by which she found herself
but never bumped against
unlike most of the others
in that simmering sphere
of toy zeppelins lapping sun cats
dolly dancer bodies and buffoons

she walks across the field
fringe meets eyebrows
not groomed since 1972
hot air sweaty ash bark
she sits down on a bench
with resinous veins and pores.

I think about ”Love in Vain” by Robert Johnson. OK, in the sound of Mick Jagger. This is summer, and the line
“unlike most of the others in that simmering sphere
of frequency wave coolness toy zeppelins lapping
sun cats the dolly dancer bodies’ movement patterns”
is so darn good!

I was bebop bouncing along with those sonorous phrases such as "chests like slim slick pieces of meat" and "simmering sphere of frequency wave coolness" (to name just two).

ah! seems this was what i really needed now... when the atmosphere is full of apprehension and 'electricity' here in my country... people are all ready for tomorrow... in a few hours... things may happen that you could not even think of...

i close the news links and find this in my reader... hey... i'm smiling big...
bold and fresh images...

eyebrows
not groomed since 1972

this was a killer...

in your works, Jenny... what makes the humor so memorable and powerful is the details... like this one above... even the date is given...

another great work!
and thanks for the boost!!

Ande, I love that song. My poems often have a kinda bluesy feel, I think. Thanks!

Francis, happy that the lines made you bebop bounce. :)

jb, thanks for the comment. The character of this poem, siv, is observing differences between the 1970s and 2010s. But the poems can surely be read in different ways.

hb, I am glad you enjoyed it. Thanks! I really like writing naturalistic details; especially if they are a bit bold. :)

I am slightly obsessed with 1970s.

"two men exposing
their fair-skinned clean-shaven chests like slim
slick pieces of meat she misses the hairy
yeah even the excessively shaggy"

These lines really speak to the changes that have occurred over the decades. The 70s seemed hairy and open and sweaty-hot and exposed. I imagine that people danced with a freedom of body that seems to have been lost. I really like this poem and what it is longing for and I like Siv a lot.

Thanks very much, Megan! Good to hear that you share that slight obsession with 1970s. I have been fascinated by the 60s and 70s since I was 14. Funny how many people born in the 70s (I was born in 1976) who are interested in that specific decade.

Hi Jenny! I've been meaning to visit for a long while now and glad I caught this one, I love..."she walks across the field fringe meets eyebrows"...made me smile. How creative :) I was born in '71 but I admit I have more of a fondness for the '80s, which may or may not be a good thing, right?!!

Hi Sarah,

Thanks for your comment. I am glad you liked it. Imho, there is no such thing as right or wrong when it comes to differences to do with fondness/taste, just subjectivity.
